CHAPTER CHATTER

CHAPTER DIRECTOR

Jerry Crane

Summer is upon us! The heat index has been at record levels the last month but it hasn’t deterred Chapter A from some good rides. We had our overnight trip to Pigeon Forge during the Memorial Day weekend. We had excellent participation with over twenty people attending. The ride up included the Cherohala Skyway and many really scenic rural roads with only a dash of rain along the way coming down off the Skyway. The following day we rode back through the Great Smokies National Park to Cherokee and then looped across the Blue Ridge Parkway back to Anderson. On the Parkway we had a good taste of rain riding but everyone had donned their rain gear so no one got soaked. At the end, a lot of sore rear ends, especially for those who didn’t ride Goldwings but a happy group overall. The weekend of the 19th we rode as a group to the Georgia District Rally in Hiawassee. Another great ride with a lot of beautiful scenery. We had over a dozen on this ride and no rain this time although there were times that a little sprinkle might have been appreciated! Finally, last weekend several of us helped out the Greyhound Rescue and Anderson County Humane Society by riding SAG support for the bicycle ride benefiting the two animal groups. There were over 125 riders riding 25, 40 or 62 mile loops around upper Anderson/lower Pickens county. I can tell you that I have to admire the riders since I escorted riders on the long route and the slowest group rode the 62 miles in less than 4 ½ hours. JW has already put out the call for the next big ride and we will be publishing something on that in the near future. See you at the next meeting on the 12th!
